Championed by DJs across the spectrum, Need U More is the throwback rave anthem that could've been. All the staple ingredients of a failproof faux-90s rave track are present: euphoric singalong vocals, a killer piano hook, rush-inducing pads and more. Originally produced for the Japanese imprint "SPEEDKING PRODUCTIONS" in 2011, the track was met with unanimous high acclaim with all that heard it, and was an unlikely mainstay in the playlists for DJ Kutski's BBC Radio 1 show for several months.
Now available for the first time digitally in an extended and remastered form, Need U More finally gets the release it deserves, along with brand new guest remixes that twist the track in every direction possible.
First on the guest remix roster is Hardcore Underground's resident producer Darwin, who gives the track a modern rework sitting somewhere between breakbeat hardcore and DnB, with subwoofer-shaking bass providing the foundation for uplifting guitars, soaring pads and a jazzed-up reimagining of the original piano line.
Following on is a ridiculous offering from upcoming beat-maker Matra Magic, originally known in the hardcore scene as Shoujo with several releases on Mob Squad Tokyo, but now finding new footing as a purveyor of hectic juke and mutant bassline. The man named Matra kicks off his remix with deceptively understated rhodes jamming, before switching everything up a notch with heavyweight sub bass and rapid vocal chopping.
Concluding the EP Osakan junglist badman SHAKA-ITCHI takes the helm and decidedly takes a complete U-turn, with the vox stripped back behind rolling amen breaks and noisy basslines in this furious dubbed-out deathmatch of jungle and drumstep.
